What Part of “Social” Networking Don’t People Get?

OK, this may may sound like a bit of of rant to many, however I just don’t get why anyone would introduce themselves as “Hi my name is “their name” here is the link to my business opportunity. You wouldn’t walk up to them on the street and introduce yourself that way. Why in the world do they think it is appropriate to “throw up” their opportunity to people when they first meet them on the internet?

Social Networking is just that. A place where people can socialize online and get to meet new people who share the common interest. It’s a place to create and build relationships. Just because someone’s profile says they are interested in networking does not mean they are looking for a business opportunity. The term networking means: “the act of meeting new people in a business or social context”. It does not say please plaster my Facebook, Twitter or social sites with YOUR business opportunity.

It does not matter how great you think your opportunity is or how badly you need to recruit somebody into. This does not make it OK to be rude or obnoxious. Online etiquette is a must for the entrepreneur who is looking to generate leads through social media. Introducing yourself by offering your link to your business opportunity is the quickest way to get yourself removed as a Facebook friend, Twitter follower or any of the social network interfaces.

I understand many people are cashed strapped and are trying to advertise their opportunity on an extremely limited budget, but one has to take te time to learn how to effectively market online.
